campus saw work commence on the new Education Gateways Building (EDGY) last week with geotechnical surveys conducted at the site.
Campus Executive Manager and EDGY Building Project Manager Doug Fraser said contracts were signed with architects HBO+EMTB on 4 December and surveying began the following day.
‘The architects have a tight timeframe to produce preliminary designs which should be completed around mid-February 2013,’ Mr Fraser said.
‘This will pave the way for requests for tender for construction of the building to go out.
‘We are anticipating construction will commence mid-2013.’
The EDGY building is to be built with $41.9 million from the Australian Government’s Education Investment Fund.
The building will support digitally connected learning environments, including simulated and laboratory spaces enabling new offerings in Allied Health and Nursing, Engineering and Construction and Education.
‘It is planned to be approximately 8000 square metres, with four floors housing a new learning commons incorporating a library,’ Mr Fraser said.
‘There will also be staff and student facilities and flexible teaching spaces, including science laboratories and nursing wards.’
