USQ's Jacquie McDonald (centre) delivered a keynote address at CQU
University of Southern Queensland Associate Professor in Learning and Teaching Support Jacquie McDonald was invited to be the guest speaker at the recent Learning and Teaching Showcase at the Central Queensland University.

The focus of the showcase was “Communities of Practice”, a chance for experts to share their knowledge with each other and something Assoc Prof McDonald has helped research and form at USQ.

“Communities of Practice involve a group of professionals meeting to share knowledge in their fields; however it is different from a committee,” she said.

“A community of practice does not use the same hierarchical leadership, nor does it need rigid rules of engagement.

“Rather, it fosters collegiality and mentoring through having a defined ‘space’ to share and address the practical problems encountered in their practice’.

Assoc Prof McDonald led USQ’s role into the formation of a community of practice with Flinders University, the University of South Australia and Miami University in Florida.

The CQ UNivesrity Learning and Teaching Showcase was hosted at the Rockhampton Campus and attracted video-links from campuses around Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria as well as representatives from Queensland Health, Centacare and Medicare Local CQ.
