The University of Southern Queensland is ready to get the creative juices flowing with the return of the popular McGregor Summer School.

Now in its 45th year, the ten-day McGregor Summer School is Australia’s biggest and longest running residential performing, visual and creative arts school.

About 350 students will converge on USQ’s Toowoomba campus from January 9 to January 18 for the 2013 classes, which include everything from music, singing, painting, sculpting, calligraphy, crafts, writing, photography, millinery and much more.

Program Coordinator Christine Matthews said new classes in 2013 would include “Harmony Singing and the Ukulele” and “Manga Magic”.

“Millinery (hat making) will also be making a return after being introduced last year,” Ms Matthews said.

“It was booked out last year and it’s been booked out again this year so it’s proved quite popular.

“We always get a great response from our students so I’m certainly looking forward to this installment of the Summer School.”

The program will culminate in a spectacular concert held by the music students at the Empire Theatre on Friday, January 18, followed by a big exhibition of the works the performing, visual and creative arts students worked on during the program the following day at the USQ Toowoomba campus.

“The exhibition is always exciting; it’s great to see what the students have produced,” Ms Matthews said.
