Laughter the best medicine for nursing students

Peebo (Peter Bissell) and Dagwood (David Bissell) meet up with some of USQ's nursing students
A lucky group of University of Southern Queensland nursing students learned that laughter can be the best medicine when they were paid a visit by professional clowns The Bissell Boys.

Peter "Peebo" and David "Dagwood" Bissell dropped in at USQ Toowoomba last week (March 18) to talk with the Episodes of Nursing Practice students about their personal experiences with Cystic Fibrosis and their work bringing laughter to sick children in hospitals.

The 29-year old brothers decided to make the most of their life after being diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis (many people with the genetic disorder don’t make it past 30) and are firm believers in laughter being the best medicine.

Coordinator for Outreach and Engagement Erin White said Nursing Lecturer Dr Clint Moloney specially requested for the brothers to come talk at USQ.

“Dr Moloney previously worked at Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane and got to know Peter and David very well during his time there,” Ms White said.

“We are fortunate that Dr Moloney’s friendship with the brothers has allowed him to reach out to them and have them share their experiences with our NUR2100 students.”

Peter and David have been performing their "Peebo and Dagwood" act for more than 12 years and have entertained thousands of children as well as adults.

The brothers have appeared on Australian Story, Backyard Blitz and the George Negus Show.
