The University of Southern Queensland’s Career Fair is about building bridges to future career paths and helping students like Carl Fraser get into building a more literal type of bridge.

“It’s my ambition to get into construction,” the second year Engineering student said while looking through the employer stalls yesterday.

“The fair has been full of useful information.

“I went to last year’s fair as well and was interested in hearing about new opportunities.”

Career Fair organiser Rebecca Boddington said more than 30 employers from a range of industries were represented at the fair, including engineering, teaching, business, accounting, law, defence and more.

“We had students lining up out the door to get in when the fair opened,” Mrs Boddington said.

“The Career Fair helps employers promote their graduate and employment programs and gives students the chance to find out more about employment opportunities in their chosen field.”

Career Fair attendee and first year Theatre student Andrew Hallas had only been at USQ for three weeks but already had made friends and formed goals for the future.

“I’m hoping to travel when I finish my study then come back to Australia and start up a theatre company,” Mr Hallas said.

“I’m hoping we can tour around high schools throughout Australia.”

One of the new friends Mr Hallas had made included fellow first year Theatre student Adam Kronk who shared in the same vision.

“Actors tend to make friends quite quickly with each other,” he said.

“There are a few of us who have the same idea and could work together to form a theatre company.

“If we’re (the theatre class) spending the next three years with each other we might as well get along.”
