Harmony will be in the air at USQ on Wednesday, 13 March when USQ Springfield celebrates Harmony Day with an exciting program of entertainment.
An initiative of the Commonwealth Government to encourage people to say no to racism, Harmony Day aims to reaffirm shared values as a community and celebrate Australia’s advancements as a multicultural society.
Students will take part in a two hour event which will feature beautiful cultural performances and cultural information stalls.
Additionally, during a two hour show attendees will enjoy Japanese games, Kanji writing and Japanese drums performed by the Union Institute of Language (UIL).
Exotic aromas will abound from complimentary international cuisine.
USQ Student Events and Experience Coordinator Samantha Miles said the day is a great opportunity to celebrate the breadth of culture on campus.
'Harmony Day gives students opportunities to do things they might not otherwise get to do and show skills that may otherwise be hidden,' she said.
'There is an emphasis on the day of traditional values of justice, equality, fairness and friendship.
'Our underlying message is one of harmony and mutual respect, but the day is all about celebrating the many different communities here in Springfield and importantly, having lots of fun.
'This is the sixh year we have hosted Harmony Day celebrations at USQ Springfield and each year we hope to make the event bigger.'
Harmony Day celebrations begin with a South Pacific Dance performance at 12pm in the USQ Auditorium and will conclude at 2pm.
