29 April 2013
Construction Week at USQ Springfield.
With a campus in the middle of one of Queensland’s fastest growing regions USQ is well situated to celebrate Construction Week at the Springfield campus with a range of activities planned for students and industry.

Organiser, Dr Vasantha Abeysekera said the campus is stretching the celebrations over three weeks with several events planned, culminating in a Construction Management Research Seminar on 6 May.

‘Students took part in a Teamwork in Construction workshop on16 April with fantastic presentations from a representative of Thiess,’ Dr Abeysekera said.

‘They also had an opportunity to network with industry members, staff and other students.’

Students also took part in a TrackStar Alliance site visit on 24 April.

‘TrackStar Alliance is an integrated infrastructure delivery business comprised of Queensland Rail, Theiss, Aurecon and AECOM.

‘They are delivering Stage 2 of the Darra to Springfield Transport Corridor Project between Richlands and Springfield.

‘The site visit was a wonderful opportunity for our construction students to visit a $475million Queensland Government integrated road and rail project located in their own backyard.

‘The majority of our Springfield students live in the Western Corridor, a regionally significant area with industrial areas, developing communities, transport construction projects and a rapidly growing population.

‘They only need drive through their local suburbs to realise the impact their future careers will have on the landscape of Australia.’

The final event of USQ’s Construction Week is a Breakfast Seminar on construction management research and practice to be held at the campus on Monday, 6 May.

‘This is an opportunity for students, academics and industry to come together to discuss the latest research in the field,’ Dr Abeysekera said.

USQ Springfield offers a range of construction and engineering programs including the Associate Degree of Construction and Bachelor of Construction.
