Do you remember when the Toowoomba Campus was the DDIAE? When the Wide Bay Campus comprised of three rooms in a demountable building at the TAFE College in Pialba? Or were you a part of the planning process at Springfield?
Next year the University is celebrating all our major milestones and your memories, when we pull out the red carpet and toast 40 years of providing quality education.
As part of this celebration, Deputy Dean of Arts and Chair of the 2007 Strategy Committee, Dr Kate Foy, was pleased to launch the official website of the 40th Anniversary celebrations today (Monday 22 May 2006).
'40 Years of Community Engagement is the theme of next year's event and this defines the process we are using to plan and carry out the celebration activities.
'This theme was reflected in the creation of the website, with USQ Distance and e-Learning Centre (DeC) staff working with employees from the Toowoomba Chronicle to compile a comprehensive selection of photos of the campus.
'There are some very retro black and white photographs now featured on the website, including the plans for and construction of the Toowoomba campus.
'We are now looking for people to log onto the website and add their memories under the appropriate decade, listed from 1960 to the 2000's.'
The Strategy, Operations and Network of Consultants Committees are now planning keystone projects and events for 2007, including a Welcome to Country dedication and Founders Dinner to begin the year.
'We are also launching a 40th Anniversary Newsletter and will announce various events on the website as the year progresses.
'We have got some really fun and exciting activities planned and look forward to celebrating our major milestone with the community in 2007,' Dr Foy said.
As part of this website the committee is now looking for you to submit your memories of the University.
Please feel free to spread the word to past colleagues, past or present on-campus, off-campus or distant students and members of the community who have fond memories of their involvement with USQ.
