USQ helps City celebrate Easter

It's been a busy few weeks for USQ theatre students, Ben Harth and Lorinda Smith, who have been donating their time and specialist skills to ensure the Australian Gospel Music Festival (AGMF) runs smoothly.

Ben and Lorinda are two of 1200 people working on a volunteer basis at the annual three-day festival in Queens Park, over the Easter long weekend.

Ben says it's an opportunity he wouldn't miss.

‘I sought out this opportunity, but I didn't actually know I could volunteer in the capacity that I have been. It is similar to stage management, just on a much larger scale.

‘We are getting hands-on experience across a variety of areas in a major festival and, while I have skills to offer, I am also learning from other people'.

While many students may be helping out behind the scenes, the University's sponsorship of the Main Stage is not so inconspicuous, with the USQ logo featuring prominently on the AGMF main stage.

Big tops have also been erected, lights and stages constructed and a purpose built camping facility established to accommodate around 30,000 people, who are expected to travel to the garden city for the event.

The AGMF commences on Good Friday, with a final curtain call on Easter Sunday night.
