Promising bassoonist to study in Switzerland
2003 Joyce Campbell Lloyd Scholarship recipient, Anne-Maree Anderson, will travel to Bern, Switzerland this Saturday (23 September 2006) to commence study with world renowned bassoonist, Professor Lyndon Watts.
Anne-Maree graduated with a Bachelor of Music from the University of Southern Queensland (USQ) in 2003, before completing postgraduate studies at the Queensland Conservatorium on Music the following year.
She said she is looking forward to the challenge of her studies.
'Professor Watts' reputation was made known to me and I went over in March and played in a Master Class for him and did an audition while I was there.
'I was obviously impressed with his playing and his teaching and he accepted me as a private student, so I will now go back and work with him for three months.
'He is based in Munich as a principal in the Munich Philharmonic orchestra and travels to Bern three days a week where he teaches at the University of the Arts, where I will study.'
This isn't the first time Anne-Maree has travelled overseas with her music.
'I played with the Queensland Youth Orchestra and did a tour of Europe with them, which was an amazing experience. I can't wait to get back there and into that vibrant musical culture.'
Anne-Maree is also looking forward to using her German speaking skills.
'I went to Sydney earlier this week to do the Certificate Deutsch, which is the language proficiency exam required by the university,' she said.
Head of the Department of Music at USQ, Kathy Pingel, said Anne-Maree is a worthy recipient of the prestigious Scholarship.
'Anne-Maree is a very promising Bassoonist who excelled in her music studies at USQ. I know she will make excellent use of this opportunity to further her studies.'
The Joyce Campbell Lloyd Scholarship has been offered to graduating music students since 1988. The scholarship alternates between vocalists and instrumentalists each year and is valued at $14,000.
'The now deceased Joyce Campbell Lloyd was a local music lover who wanted to give aspiring musicians the opportunity to extend their performance studies overseas.
'It is a very generous scholarship and provides a wonderful opportunity for our graduating Music students.'
The 2006 Joyce Campbell Lloyd Scholarship recipient will be announced at a public recital on Saturday evening (23 September 2006). The recital commences in the USQ Arts Theatre at 7.30pm.
