Bras turned into art for a good cause at USQ

aBRAcadaBRA, Bosom Buddies, Booby trap, ZeBRA, ‘D' World Cup and the Story of Ali Braba are just some of the original entries that will be judged tomorrow (Tuesday 31 October 2006) in the USQ BraArt competition.

More than 30 people (including at least one man!) entered the competition that was organised by the University's Faculty of Sciences.

The $5 entry fee will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation to raise money for research into Women's cancers.

Social Club spokesperson and Sciences Assessment Coordinator, Sandra Lammas, said the response to the competition had been fantastic.

'We received more entries than we expected,' Sandra said.

'People are so clever. Everyone who entered should be commended for their efforts. The amount of effort put in far outweighs the $5 entry fee.'

Members from USQ's Wide Bay Campus also got behind the initiative with 8 entries being sent in from Hervey Bay staff.

'We never expected it to be so big. Hopefully we'll do it every year,' Sandra said.

The winning entry will be announced at a Pink Ribbon Breakfast, also run by the Social Club, on Tuesday 31 October from 7am – 8.30am.

Sandra said the breakfast also provided a further fundraising opportunity.

'To supplement the donation from the entry fee we decided to host a breakfast for the Faculty, with pink pancakes, pink punch, pink decorations and everything pink,' she said.

The social club is expecting to raise nearly $400 for Breast Cancer Research through the events.

Photo Opportunity: Winners can be photographed in front of the competition display upon request.
