International company donates conservation funds to USQ
The University of Southern Queensland (USQ) will welcome the Managing Director of Canon Australia,
along with local official guests during a Corporate Club function this Wednesday, 21 June.
During the visit Canon Australia's Managing Director, Shuichi Tsukahara, will donate $4,000 to the University's Japanese Garden Water Conservation Project.
USQ's Buildings and Facilities Administration and Support Services Manager, Mr Bryan Williams, said Canon's generous contribution would assist with the University's plan to irrigate the Japanese Garden with lake water, reducing its demand on town supplies.
The visit will also be used as an opportunity to present the University with three, first year scholarships.
The Total Technology- Canon Australia Scholarships valued at a total of $24,000 are jointly funded by Canon Australia and local Canon business partner Wayne Wallace (Total Technology Centre).
Mr Wallace said he made the scholarships available in an effort to financially assist rural students during their studies.
"I wanted to return something to the local community," Mr Wallace said.
"Both Canon and I chose to support the communities we are a part of and providing a University scholarship allows us to contribute greatly," he said.
Mr Wallace has an 18 year association with Canon and is also the first local business to supply USQ Printing Services with a fleet of high end digital printers.
After the official proceedings Corporate Club members will be invited to tour the University's leading edge digital printing facilities.
Established in 1990, the USQ Corporate Club has more than 200 member businesses and provides these businesses with the opportunity to network at monthly functions.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITY: Official guests will tour the Japanese Garden at 3.20pm on Wednesday. Media are invited to attend this interview and photo opportunity.
