Last concert for music lecturer

After more than 20 years of teaching emerging musicians, Andrew Lorenz is hanging up the baton. But before he retires he will conduct the USQ Orchestra one final time.

Andrew will retire from USQ at the end of the year, but will take to the stage on Sunday, November 5 when he conducts the annual Concerto Concert.

The performance will feature six of the University's top instrumental soloists, accompanied by the celebrated USQ Orchestra.

Final year and honours students will perform a vast selection of music ranging from Beethoven to work by Russian composer, Prokofiev.

Andrew said the students will perform pieces selected from across the globe.

'We dig around the world to get music. We had to specifically order the Saxophone Concerto from Sweden for the concert.

'The concert will feature an enormous variety of instrumental pieces. The students will perform six very different pieces, spanning across 150 years.'

Andrew said the students are very capable musicians.

'The students are gifted on their individual instruments and look forward to the opportunity and the challenge of playing with the orchestra.'
