USQ thanks Chancellor for a decade of service
USQ staff and students will officially farewell popular Chancellor, Don Stevens AM, at a morning tea at the University refectory on Thursday 2nd March.
Don Stevens joined the USQ Council in 1995 and was elected to the position of Chancellor in 1996.
USQ Vice Chancellor, Professor Bill Lovegrove, said Mr Stevens has made a significant contribution to the University.
"Over the past decade the University has benefited enormously from Don Steven's leadership and strategic direction,
"In his role as USQ Chancellor he has consistently demonstrated his commitment to the University and the education sector as a whole,
"This commitment was acknowledged in 2004 when Don received a Member of the General Division of the Order of Australia for this service to regional education."
Don Stevens announced his retirement from the Council late last year.
"When I finish on 3 March I will have been Chancellor for ten years. When I was offered a new term three years ago, I was actually offered five years and only accepted three. I think after ten years it is probably wise for there to be a change and have some new blood,
"The University is such an important force in the community and it has been an honour and privilege to be Chancellor and I have found the experience most enjoyable and rewarding,
"The main highlight has been being part of the growth and development of the University and watching the University mature, seeing the increase in quality of academics, the gradual development of research activities and the establishment of the Wide Bay and Springfield Campuses." Mr Stevens said.
He and his wife, Barbara, have been tremendous advocates for the University, showing great dedication to the education sector and the broader community.
