Four hands and two pianos
Mozart celebrations at the University of Southern Queensland (USQ) will continue with the West Star Motors Twilight Duo Piano Recital on Wednesday 18 October.
Accomplished musicians, USQ Head of Music, Kathy Pingel, and USQ Senior Lecturer in Music, Phillip Gearing, will perform four popular pieces which will appeal to a variety of music lovers.
Kathy said the Twilight Recital is a rare opportunity to hear two pianos perform at the same time.
'While duets are quite common, it is rare to hear a piano duo recital as it can be quite difficult to match two instruments.'
'There hasn't been a piano duo recital performed in Toowoomba for quite a few years.
'Phillip and I will be performing on two beautiful instruments, including a 9 foot Steinway & Sons Grand Piano and a 7 foot 6 inch Kawai Grand.'
The musical journey begins in 1700's and includes Mozart's popular and effervescent Sonata for Two Pianos in D, K448. The program also features Chopin's charmingly lyrical and rarely heard Rondo in C, along with Poulenc's witty and sardonic Sonata.
The recital will conclude with contemporary composer Dennis Alexander's rollicking Fanfare Toccata-Rondo, written in 2002.
Phillip said the music selection will suit many tastes.
'We are performing a variety of pieces that will have wide audience appeal. '
The recital will be held on Wednesday 18 October at 6.00pm in the USQ Arts Theatre.
Ticket prices: Adult $13.50, Concession $11 and Children $5.50.
