USQ Game On!
With video games being the most popular Christmas present this year, the demand for this creative technology is growing at rapid rate.
To keep in step with this massive industry, USQ has created a new Games and Creative Technologies program major this year.
To launch this program, USQ is hosting a Sony Play Station 2, computer game play-off competition.
The first round heats of USQ – AE (Electronic Arts) Video Game Competition will take place tomorrow (Thursday 19 January), between 1pm and 8pm. Then the best of the best will compete in the finals on Saturday 21 January from 11am.
Competition organiser Mr Ken Gideon said it's a great way for prospective IT (Information Technology) students and computer game enthusiast to show off their skills by competing against each other in a public forum.
"It's also a great way for perspective IT students to get information and speak to USQ faculty representatives about this new and exciting program major," Mr Gideon said.
The USQ BIT (Bachelor of Information technology) major is designed to equip graduates with the skills required to beak into the competitive world of games programming. Students will gain experience in computer game design, programming, development testing and evaluation.
The practical skills they will obtain during the course of their studies include mathematical proficiency, high performance computer programming, team working and project management.
Prizes will be given out to all places and there will be free giveaways throughout the competition.
