USQ students to be inducted into Golden Key Society
Close to 250 of the University of Southern Queensland's (USQ) brightest students will be inducted into the Golden Key Society at the Toowoomba campus this Thursday (28 September 2006).
Golden Key is an international honour society that recognises the top 15 percent of undergraduate students in each faculty in more than 350 countries around the globe.
USQ interim Executive Committee Member, Tiana Kankkunen, expects around 60 people to attend the official induction.
"We have been overwhelmed by the response to the Society and overall we have 238 members from USQ," Tiana said.
"At the induction here in Toowoomba we have 57 students coming along from all faculties at the University."
Prominent Toowoomba businessman, Clive Berghofer, will be the key note speaker at the event.
"Mr Berghofer will also be inducted as an honorary Golden Key Society member on the night.
"We are very fortunate to have him come along and maybe share some of his secrets of success.
As well as recognising its members for their outstanding academic achievement, the Golden Key Society is also used as a gateway to employment.
"There are many career development advantages for the students who become part of the Golden Key Society" Tiana said.
"Also, there are scholarships that they can apply for and members can develop national and international contacts through the Society.
"It is very exciting to have such a group at the University and we are all looking forward to the event."
The inaugural USQ Golden Key Society induction will be held in the USQ Arts Theatre from 6:30pm.
Tiana and the other three members of the interim Executive Committee are available for interview on Thursday morning at USQ.
