University of Southern Queensland Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bill Lovegrove is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Graham Baker as the University's new Deputy-Vice Chancellor (Scholarship).
"Professor Baker has an outstanding national and international reputation as an academic leader, and I am sure that under his leadership, the research profile of the University will continue to grow and prosper over the coming years," Professor Lovegrove said.
"He has worked at USQ since 2001, occupying at different times the roles of Dean of Engineering and Surveying, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Learning and Teaching) and more recently Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research)."
Before joining USQ, Graham was Professor and Head of Civil Engineering at Warwick University in the United Kingdom, having been appointed to remodel undergraduate degree programs and to help improve the School of Engineering's research rating under the UK RAE system.
At USQ, he has overseen the introduction of the Faculty's benchmark attribute-driven Bachelor of Engineering, the first edition of the University's Learning and Teaching Plan, and the USQ Research Strategy.
Graham is a Chartered Professional Engineer, a Fellow of the UK Institution of Civil Engineers and of the Institution of Engineers Australia. He is currently chair of the ARC Engineering and Environmental Sciences panel and the Linkage, Infrastructure, Equipment and Facilities panel, which allocate around $100 million of research funds in total to the Australian research community each year.
"These experiences equip Professor Baker extremely well to lead learning and teaching as well as research and innovation at USQ," Professor Lovegrove said.
"Professor Baker brings extensive experience to the position and I would like to thank him for his contribution so far to the University and welcome him as the Deputy-Vice Chancellor (Scholarship)."
