Renowned Griffith Trio to perform at Peter Rorke Recital

One of Australia's leading chamber groups, the Griffith Trio will take to the stage at the USQ Arts Theatre for the Peter Rorke Recital on Sunday 15 October.

Consisting of three highly experienced musicians from the teaching staff of the Queensland Conservatorium at Griffith University, the group have been playing together for almost a decade.

Griffith Trio member Stephen Emmerson said after performing to audiences across Australia and Asia, the group were excited about the opportunity to play in the Garden City.

'Michele Walsh (violin), Markus Stocker (cello) and myself (piano) have been all around Australia and Asia but we have never been to Toowoomba as a group,' he said.

'We felt it was about time that we went and played in Toowoomba and we are very much looking forward to it.'

With an enviable reputation for its performances, the Griffith Trio are sure to be well received at the University.

'USQ is familiar with piano trios, with the Phoenix Ensemble playing there for many years,' Mr Emmerson said.

'We know that they are an experienced audience so it will be interesting to see how they react to us.'

The Griffith Trio will perform two contrasting musical masterpieces on the day, with the Toowoomba community given the chance to not only hear some of the best chamber musicians in Australia but also honour Peter Rorke OAM.

The annual Peter Rorke recital honours the memory of Peter Rorke OAM (1928-1998), distinguished teacher, conductor, composer and former Head of Music at USQ.

'I actually only meet Mr Rorke once but I know that he did a lot for the University and also the Toowoomba community,' Mr Emmerson said.

'There will be two main items on the day, one by Schumann and the other by Charles Ives, and will offer something for everyone.'

The annual Peter Rorke Recital will commence at 3pm in the USQ Arts Theatre with tickets now on sale from the USQ Box Office.

Ticket prices are Adults $20.50, Concession $16.50 and Child $5.50.  For more information contact the USQ Box Office on 4631 1111.
