University eases culture shock
The summer holidays are almost over, and university students are gearing up for Orientation Week. As local students look forward to a week of activities and parting, new international students are preparing for the experience of a life time.
As part of the International Orientation Week, USQ will welcome more than 160 students during an Official Welcoming Ceremony.
Students from various countries including Germany, Sudan and the Philippines will be welcomed by Toowoomba's Deputy Mayor, Joe Ramia, and USQ's Pro Vice Chancellor, Tim Fowler.
The University has arranged a number of activities to help the international students ease into life on campus and in Australia.
Manager of International Support, Mr Gary Logan, said there is a range of difficulties associate with moving overseas. To ensure the students are equipped for their time in Australia, the University has organised quite a number of activities.
"The program we offer aims to help students adjust and feel welcome at USQ and in the wider Toowoomba community".
Students will be taken on a guided tour of Toowoomba and travel to the Gold Coast for a weekend of Australian sun and surf, as part of the two week orientation program.
The Official Welcome will commence at 10am on Thursday, 23 February in the Allison Dickson Lecture Theatre.
Media are welcome to attend the Official event.
