USQ launches scholarships for Summer Semester
For the first time the University of Southern Queensland (USQ) will offer a large number of scholarships to students commencing their academic program during the Summer Semester.
The University is offering 30 scholarships across its three campuses to full-time on-campus mature age students.
Dean of Students, Professor Rod St Hill, said there were a large number of scholarships on offer and he hoped commencing students would take advantage of the opportunity.
'Students commencing study in the Summer Semester can now access these scholarships for the first time.
'This is a wonderful opportunity for those wishing to get a head start on their degree to aid themselves financially.'
The Non-School Leaver Scholarships are valued at $2,000 per year for the duration of the recipient's academic program, and can be used in a variety of ways.
'The scholarships are quite a generous sum, and can be used to assist students with a variety of expenses like the purchasing of study material, a computer or paying for child care while attending lectures or tutorials.'
Students wishing to apply must have completed their high school studies, must be an Australian citizen or have permanent resident status, start their studies in a bachelor degree program in Semester Three or Semester One 2007 and be enrolled full-time in a minimum of three study units.
Professor St Hill said the scholarship application process was not complicated and the University is looking for more than academic excellence.
'We are not simply looking for strong academic achievement, but want students who are actively involved in the community or can demonstrate financial difficulty to also apply for the scholarships.'
Scholarship applications close this week (Friday October 27 2006). For more information visit USQ's scholarship section.
