USQ appoints new Dean of Business and Pro-Vice Chancellor

The University of Southern Queensland Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bill Lovegrove, today announced the appointment of Professor Allan Layton as Dean of Business and Pro-Vice Chancellor (Institutional Partnerships).

Professor Layton joins USQ from the Queensland University of Technology, where he was Head of Economics and Finance, in the Faculty of Business.

"Professor Layton has extensive experience in academia and the private sector, as an economist, researcher, consultant and author," Professor Lovegrove said.

"In his role at QUT, Professor Layton demonstrated outstanding professional and academic leadership and improved the academic standing of the School of Economics and Finance.

"I am delighted to have someone of Professor Layton's calibre on the executive team at USQ and I look forward to working with him closely in the future."

Since graduating with a Doctorate of Philosophy in Economics from the University of Queensland, Professor Layton has gained significant experience in university management and academic program design.

"Professor Layton has held academic positions at La Trobe University, Griffith University, Macquarie University, the University of Queensland and Columbia University in the United States," Professor Lovegrove said.

"The majority of Professor Layton's research has explored contemporary policy issues, with a focus on macroeconomic policy, financial and monetary economics and economic forecasting."

As part of his research, Professor Layton has written two books, published almost 50 papers in international refereed journals and given numerous addresses to industry in Australia and overseas.

Professor Layton is the Vice-President of the Queensland branch of the Economic Society of Australia and a member of the Farmacule Board.

Professor Layton was a Deputy Member of Queensland Treasury Corporate Board (1994-2000) and is a past member of the Queensland Transmission and Supply Corporation Board.
