Flexi School opens online classroom

The Toowoomba Flexi School today (Thursday, 9 March) launched the Virtual Classroom Project, an initiative made possible by a $10,000 grant from the Regional Initiatives Incentive Fund.

The project pilot is designed to assess online education programs during a 12 month period.

Students will have access to online resources and learner support in a web-based environment.

The Regional Initiatives Incentive Fund is a scheme put forward by the University of Southern Queensland (USQ) to support worthy local initiatives. The fund aims to encourage interaction and partnership between the University and the community.

The Toowoomba Flexi School endeavours to provide opportunities to students who are unable to attend mainstream schooling. The learning environment is a major departure from the traditional approach to education.

The Toowoomba community, in partnership with the Toowoomba City Council, the Rotary Club of Toowoomba East, Education Queensland and Younity, have all been vital elements in the development of the project.

The pilot will be implemented by teachers from Centenary Heights, while staff from USQ's Faculty of Education will be largely responsible for the evaluation of the project.
