USQ Springfield welcomes new students for Summer Semester
USQ's Springfield Campus will welcome its newest students with an Orientation Program on Friday 17 November from 9am to 4pm.
More than 20 students will commence their studies with USQ Springfield during the Campus' first Summer Semester, which runs from 20 November until 16 February.
Campus Director, Doug Fraser, said giving students the option to start their program in the Summer Semester is unique to USQ.
'We are the only university in Queensland that gives students the option to commence their full program at the start of the Summer Semester,' Mr Fraser said.
'Starting your program during the Summer Semester at USQ is the same as starting at any other Semester - students can secure a commonwealth supported place right from the start.
'What is different is how we teach during this shorter semester with most courses having their lectures and tutorials grouped to allow students to still be able to have a break over the Christmas – New Year period.
'Students can still have a summer holiday and be with family and friends which is important at this time of the year.'
He said while some other universities do allow new students to enrol in one course over the Summer Semester, but those students are required to pay full fee and then apply for a place in the full program in Semester One.
'At USQ Springfield we are making things easier for students,' Mr Fraser said.
'Continuing students at USQ Springfield also have the option of taking courses over the Summer Semester without having to pay full fee (upfront), like most other Queensland universities.'
During Orientation Day students will be able to meet their lecturers, find their way around the library and meet fellow students.
Program Coordinator and Communication and English as a Second Language Lecturer, Nick Todd, said the Orientation program was designed to prepare commencing USQ Springfield students administratively, academically and socially.
'We want to make the students feel as welcome as possible and give them a chance to find out how things work before the semester starts,' Nick said.
'The Orientation program is then complimented by a number of other events, such as skills workshops and social events throughout the Semester.
'And of course our students have access to a range of support services, both personal and academic, to help them through their studies if they require assistance.'
Photo opportunity: Students are available for interview during Morning Tea from 10am-10.30am and during their lunch break from 12.30pm–1.30pm on the Level 6 balcony.
