USQ prioritises ties with schools
A new program being launched at the University of Southern Queensland (USQ) is making it easier for high school students in the Springfield region to make the transition into University.
The USQ Priority Plus School Partnership Program will work with teachers and students in the region to provide further educational opportunities.
Teachers and Principles from 25 schools in the region will attend the launch of the Program at USQ's Springfield Campus on Wednesday 5th April.
Program Coordinator, Margo Baas said the program was trialled successfully at USQ's Wide Bay Campus last year.
"The USQ Priority Plus School Partnership Program is an opportunity to lighten the load on time-poor teachers and open the door to new learning outcomes for selected Queensland schools.
"Students receive access to a number of initiatives to help them prepare for University, including the Head Start Program where they can undertake a University course while completing their Senior Certificate.
"As part of the partnership teachers receive access to syllabus-based teaching resources and materials, prepared in consultation with the school.
"Teachers will be further supported with free borrowing rights to the USQ Libraries, Priority Plus access to Postgraduate courses and staff development workshops."
The Priority Plus program aims to help partner schools gain a higher percentage of tertiary placements for their students through generous scholarships to USQ and a bonus OP point for every eligible Year 12 student.
"The Priority Plus program can also assist in building students' self esteem through a unique youth leadership program that combines the latest leadership development practices to help young Queenslanders prepare for future challenges."
The Program will be launched on Level 6 of the USQ Springfield Building.
Photo Opportunity: Principals, teachers and University staff will be available for comment and to provide further information on the program at 1pm on Level 6 of the USQ Springfield building.
