Scientists come in many forms

Contrary to popular belief people who study Sciences are no longer lab rats who play with test tubes, they are out in the world making a difference and a number of them will share their experiences at a series of information sessions.

The three specially designed sessions will be held from the 10 – 12 October in the Allison Dickson Lecture Theatre at USQ from 7pm – 8.30pm each night.

During the sessions an array of Health, IT and Science professionals will share their experience.

USQ Event spokesperson, Helen Ainsworth, said the sessions have been arranged to break down the stereotype that scientists only work in laboratories.

'We're holding the sessions to show people about what they may be missing out on,' Helen said.

'Over the years there has been a declining interest in the Science related fields as many people believe science is just conducting experiments in laboratories.

'And while some scientists do work in that environment, the world of Science is very diverse and can lead to many varied careers.

'The industry professionals at these sessions all make a huge difference to people on a daily basis and find their jobs very fulfilling,' she said.

'These professionals want to share their passion with the community, to people who may not have considered Science as a career path.

'The sessions are also a good opportunity for people considering a career change to come along and learn some more about their options.'

Each night the sessions will have a different theme, with relative industry professionals speaking.

Tuesday night will explore Health, Wednesday night is focusing on Information Technology and Thursday night will showcase the Physical Sciences.

The speakers include a doctor, nurse and psychologist from Queensland's largest regional hospital, a climatologist who provides advice to the state government, a professional from the world's leading internet networking company, Cisco Systems, and a person who has made their passion for wine their profession, just to name a few.

Entry is free and attendees will have the opportunity to mingle with the industry spokespeople after the event and have all their questions answered.
