Warwick Exhibition to inspire budding artists

Gracing the walls of Paris' famous Louvre Museum are some of the worlds most appreciated and valuable works of art. But even masters such as Rembrandt and Van Gogh had modest beginnings.

In a bid to highlight an artist's technical and creative progress, the University of Southern Queensland (USQ) will hold an exhibition at the Warwick Regional Art Gallery over the next month.

Southern Exposure will include innovative pieces produced by a variety of people, with a range of skills and experience, studying Visual Arts at the University.

The University hopes the exhibition will inspire high school students, local artists and mature aged people to pursue tertiary studies in art.

USQ Lecturer in Visual Arts, Sandy Pottinger, said the exhibition aims to show the progression of an artist's skill.

'The fact is most everyone starts out quite humbly.

'By showing work from all levels we think that people will be fascinated by the personal exploration and the development of skills.

'The exhibition will involve work from our first year students to our PhD candidates,' Ms Pottinger said.

The Warwick Regional Art Gallery has kindly donated the space to the University.

Southern Exposure runs from Friday 14 April to Sunday 7 May.
