USQ Springfield to host its first Open Day

For the first time the University of Southern Queensland's (USQ) Springfield Campus is opening its doors to the community at its inaugural Open Day.

The USQ Springfield Open Day will be held on Sunday 13 August from 10am to 2pm.

USQ Events Manager, Ken Gideon, said although the University held an information day last year, this would be the first time the Campus would be open to the public.

'Last year we were unable to show people around the Campus as it was still under construction, so we held a Career Information Day at Brookwater Golf Club.

'This year however, we are able to showcase the Campus so prospective students, community members and their friends will all be able to have their first look at the beautiful facilities.'

Mr Gideon said community members will also have the opportunity to ask USQ staff about studying at the University.

'Open Day is an opportunity for prospective students to experience university life first hand and explore many of the study options available to them at USQ,' he said.

'There will be a number of presentations and displays from all areas of the University, as well as information booths with staff and students on hand to answer questions.'

People will also be able to tour on-campus student accommodation, which is owned and operated by Education City.

Information will also be available on the Orion Shopping Centre and Translink services.

In addition to the information and displays there will also be a range of entertainment throughout the day.

'Local radio station, River 94.9 will be on hand and there will also be a Battle of the Bands.

'The Battle of the Bands should be a popular element of the day, with local high school students battling it out for a first prize of $500 and a runners up prize of $250,' Mr Gideon said.

The USQ Ergon Energy Big Band will also entertain the crowds and the new campus eatery, the OC, will run various food booths on the day.

Mr Gideon said the Springfield Open Day program will provide something for everyone.
