Kath and Kim script editor to attend Voices on the Range

Break out the cardonnay, get tizzed up and team with the theme, because the script editor of the much loved Kath and Kim series is coming to Toowoomba.

Australian author and television producer, Doug MacLeod, is just one of 15 prominent artists attending the 2006 Voices on the Range: A Youth Cultural Festival at USQ on Friday 28 April 2006.

Hosted by Fairholme College and USQ, the event aims to inspire primary and secondary students to pursue a career in the arts.

Head of English at Fairholme College, Rohan Davis, said the festival is getting bigger every year.

'The main aim of the event is to provide the students with cultural experiences and allow them to engage with art workers, like photographers, cartoonists, journalists, authors, script writers, dramatists and song writers.

'The event also tailors with the curriculum, addresses literacy outcomes and fulfils the objective on the senior English syllabus, as well as providing students with career outcomes,' said Mr Davis.

Centenary Heights SHS, Downlands College, Harristown SHS, St Joseph's College, St Saviour's College, Toowoomba Grammer and Toowoomba SHS are proud to support the event.

'We have approximately 2000 students involved in the day and we have ten people involved on the committee and various teachers.

'We would also like to acknowledge our community sponsors, ABC Southern Queensland, Toowoomba City Council Library, the Empire Theatre, The Toowoomba Chronicle and Mary Ryan Bookshop.'
