40 Films in 40 Nights at USQ Springfield

Australian stars of the silver screen will come to life at USQ Springfield in the coming months as the campus celebrates USQ's 40th anniversary with 40 Films in 40 Nights.

The free event, open to the Greater Springfield community, will celebrate 40 years of Australian cinema. Movies will screen at 6pm in the USQ Auditorium.

The film festival coincides with the launch of USQ Springfield‘s new Bachelor of Applied Media (BAM), the first degree of its kind in Queensland.

Media Studies and Production Lecturer Dr Daryl Sparkes said students enrolled in the BAM would run the event, as part of their course work for the semester.

'The BAM students will be involved in all aspects of the event, from sourcing films from the Australian Film and Sound Archive, to providing commentary prior to each screening.

'Each student has been allocated a film as part of their assessment,' he said.

'They will be required to research the film's importance, key themes and cinematic innovation and present a 10-minute overview to the audience before each film.

'We're looking forward to showcasing a number of classics as well as more recent contenders and invite the Springfield community to come along and enjoy a great night out,' Dr Sparkes said.

40 Films in 40 Nights premieres at the USQ Springfield Auditorium on May 14 with the quirky Australian cinema classic Yahoo Serious and continues Monday to Friday until July.
