USQ celebrates 40th in style

As part of its 40th anniversary celebrations, USQ will be hosting a reunion for graduates and former staff at its Toowoomba campus.

Held on 18 August at the Clive Berghofer Recreation Centre, alumni and former staff have been invited to come along and enjoy the celebrations with their friends and family.

Reunion organiser Michael Thompson is eager to see former staff and graduates come back to USQ to reconnect with their friends and colleagues.

'We're hoping to get about 1000 people, but realistically, it could be anything between 300 and that number.

'It's important for the uni, as this is its 40th year in existence.

'It's a celebration of all the successful things we've achieved in such a short timeframe.'

Michael expects the majority of returning graduates will come from Southeast and Southwest Queensland.

'It's amazing what careers people have landed since attending USQ.'

'We're hoping to be surprised by who might turn up.'

The reunion is designed to provide a chance for old friends to meet up and reminisce about the early days of USQ.

'It's going to be a very casual event,' said Michael.

While it will be a relaxed affair, the reunion is also a part of the University's 40th anniversary celebrations.

'It'll have different significance for different people, and different generations.

'Part of the significance for the staff is seeing how the University's been able to grow from such small foundations to an international entity.'

Michael stated that the reunion was a chance for people to reconnect and reflect on the changes that have occurred to USQ.

'What we want to do is to provide a forum for people to come back, catch up with friends, chat and communicate in a friendly situation.'
