Street Performers needed for Buskers Lane
The University of Southern Queensland (USQ) is calling all clowns, comedians and circus performers to attend a job interview like no other.
For the first time, the University will feature a Buskers Lane during its August Open Day and it is looking for talented people to perform.
USQ Events Officer, Anna Scheuringer, is coordinating the auditions for Buskers Lane and is looking for some unique acts to entertain the crowds on open day.
'Buskers Lane will be an exciting new part of our Open Days and we are hoping to attract a wide variety of performers to bring out their guitars, batons and dancing shoes.
'People who can juggle, sing, yodel or anyone who loves performing in front of a crowd is invited to audition."
Anna said every busker will be allocated a high profile position where they will be given great exposure.
'More than 6000 people attended our Open Day last year, and this year we are hoping to attract many more.
'Our Open Days attract a diverse range of people and it is a great opportunity for performers to gain some local exposure - or just entertain the large crowds of people attending the day.'
While the University is looking for wild, fun and entertaining performances, there are a few regulations applicants need to keep in mind when auditioning for Buskers Lane.
'We want everyone who thinks they have a good act to apply, however there are a few rules that people have to keep in mind.
'Open Day is family orientated so please keep material G Rated.'
'Dangerous implements or materials such as fire breathers of knife throwers will not be allowed. If you are unsure if your act will pass our safety requirements please contact us,' Anna said.
The USQ Open Day will be held on Sunday 19 August 2007. Applications close on Friday 15 June 2007 and auditions will be held throughout the coming months. For audition times please contact Anna on 46312851 or visit the Open Day website www.usq.edu.au/openday and follow the links to Buskers Lane.
'We are really keen to see all those wonderful performers in Toowoomba audition. Some leaping acrobats would be good! Mimers, dancers and jugglers are also encouraged to audition.
'We really want to attract people with unique talents as weird and wonderful as they may be.'
