Climate expert to provide monthly weather outlook
University of Southern Queensland (USQ) climate expert and Director of the Australian Centre for Sustainable Catchments (ACSC) Professor Roger Stone will give his thoughts on the weather and climate change in a monthly report to be posted on the ACSC's website.
Professor Stone will compile the reports based on information from a number of climate forecast resources.
'The key to the report is bringing together information from a wide range of credible resources including the Queensland Climate Change Centre of Excellence, Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries (DPI&F), Natural Resource Management (NRM) and the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM)," Professor Stone said.
'There will also be links provided to international agencies including the Climate Prediction Centre in the United States and the United Kingdom government's Met Office.
'I will be providing a monthly update on what is happening with the weather and climate change based on this information.'
The report will mainly deal with forecasts in Queensland and will give the general public a summary of what to expect for the upcoming month.
'Each report will focus on Queensland, although I will provide links to national and international forecasts within the climate outlook,' Professor Stone said.
'There is so much information out there now about the climate that I think it is important that farmers and industry can get a condensed appraisal of the weather conditions.'
While the reports will be beneficial for landholders and the community, Professor Stone said that it could also be used as a resource by the media.
'It will be a source for the media to see what the view of the ACSC is in regards to climate change and the weather,' he said.
Professor Stone's climate outlook for June is currently posted on the ACSC's website and can be viewed at www.usq.edu.au/acsc
