Dalby orientation meeting for external students

USQ external students in the Western Downs and South Burnett regions will be given the chance to attend an orientation meeting at the Dalby RSL next Wednesday (7 March 2007).

Hosted by USQ Dalby Regional Liaison Officer, Narelle McIntyre, the meeting will be an opportunity for students from the region to come face to face with USQ staff.

'The meeting is designed to help students settle into study and also meet some of the staff,' Mrs McIntyre said.

'There will be a representative from the Distance Education Centre (DEC), the library and the student guild to answer any questions that the students may have.'

Running in Dalby for almost three decades, the orientation is held twice a year for students beginning their studies with USQ.

'At the start of Semesters one and two we hold the meetings, which give the students a chance to learn about USQ's support systems,' Mrs McIntyre said.

'I have been a Regional Liaison Officer for 21 years this year and they were running for some time before that so they have been something that has helped students for close to thirty years.'

With Mrs McIntyre covering an area spanning from Jondaryan all the way to the South Australian border, she does not expect all students to turn up but was hopeful that those in and around Dalby and in the South Burnett would attend.

'All up there are about 300 students that I look after, which is a lot so we will not get everyone but hopefully we can get a good number of students there,' she said.

'This is a way in which we can establish links of communication with students and I look forward to meeting new people who are studying with USQ.'

The Dalby Regional Orientation Meeting will be held upstairs at the Dalby RSL. Students chasing more information are encouraged to contact Mrs McIntyre on 4662 1320.
