Engineering programs expand at USQ Springfield
The University of Southern Queensland (USQ) Springfield campus has announced it will offer two new engineering degree programs and a new engineering associate degree from semester one 2008.
Coordinator of Engineering Programs at Springfield Dr David Thorpe said the University would be offering majors in Building and Construction Management and Civil Engineering as part of the Bachelor of Engineering Technology degree program.
'The new programs will give students a sound knowledge of the principles and practice of building and construction as well as the management skills required to supervise projects of this type,' Dr Thorpe said.
'The Building and Construction Management major will give students the opportunity to work in fields such as integrated project management and construction technology.
'Civil engineering major students could expect to find work in urban, rural or bush settings in the building and development of infrastructure such as roads, railways, airfields, dams, buildings and harbour facilities to name only a few.
'There are many supervisors in the building and construction industry that have a trade background who may be seeking appropriate qualifications that will enable them to work as engineering technologists.
'The new degree programs, offered over three years full-time or 6 years part-time, will give them this qualification.'
Dr Thorpe said USQ Springfield will also offer the Associate Degree in Engineering (Civil Engineering) over two years full-time or four years part-time for the first time.
'The associate degree program will produce technically qualified people who are of immediate value to employers.
'They will have the necessary platform on which to undertake degree level studies in engineering.'
There is still time to apply for entry into the new engineering programs for semester one.
