USQ to present Heritage Building Society scholarships

 

University of Southern Queensland's (USQ) Faculty of Business will award a number of scholarships sponsored by the Heritage Building Society at a morning tea tomorrow (Tuesday, 27 February 2007).

Faculty of Business Dean, Professor Allan Layton, said the annual bursaries, valued at $3000 each, will encourage the students to continue attaining outstanding results.

'The scholarship recipients are of a very high calibre and I congratulate each student on their decision to study with USQ.'

Heritage Building Society CEO, Mr John Minz, will present the bursaries and speak on behalf of Heritage.

Professor Layton said the University greatly valued the support of local businesses and the scholarship presentation was also a way of acknowledging their support.

'We are very appreciative of the strong support received from various local organisations in the development of our business scholarship.

'Many of our graduates now work for Heritage Building Society and so the strong relationship it has with USQ Business is the result of many years of co-support.

'This year USQ celebrates 40 years of community engagement and the Faculty of Business is very proud of its long history of working closely with the Heritage Building Society and other businesses in the community.'

The four Heritage scholarships recipients are:

Kylie Betheras, Gary Moor Memorial Scholarship in Marketin: Kylie is a final year student studying a Bachelor of Business/ Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Marketing, Accounting and Public Relations

Lorna Cross, Geoff McClune Memorial Scholarship in Human Resource Management: Lorna is half way through a Bachelor of Business majoring in HR and Organisation and Business Communication

Jeremy Cox, Len Ludgate Scholarship in Information Technology: Jeremy is a final year student studying a Bachelor of Information Technology Majoring in Computer Software Development

Briony Carey, Don Stephens Scholarship in Commerce: Briony is a third year student studying a Bachelor of Science/ Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Finance and Applied Mathematics.

The Faculty also held a morning tea during January to congratulate commencing students who received scholarships.

Each year the Faculty of Business offers ten $5000 Scholarships to full-time, on-campus students who enrol in any degree program offered by the Faculty.
