Law to be launched at USQ
The University of Southern Queensland's Law program will be officially launched this Wednesday (February 28 2007).
On offer from Semester One 2008, the Law programs have been heralded as a significant program development for the University and as such the launch will be an important event according to Dean of the Faculty of Business Professor Allan Layton.
'We will be formally launching the new Law program and I am very much looking forward to it,' Professor Layton said.
'This is a milestone in the development of Law at USQ and it has been a long time coming.'
Guests at the launch will include USQ Vice Chancellor Bill Lovegrove, Chancellor Bobbie Brazil, and Toowoomba Mayor Di Thorley along with other members of the Toowoomba and Queensland law community.
'There will be a number of people who are prominent in the law society at the launch,' Professor Layton said.
'In particular Megan Mahon, who is the Vice-President of the Queensland Law Society will be here and she will be talking about the importance of regional Law courses.'
Students will be able to undertake Law on-campus and externally through the University's Toowoomba and Springfield campuses.
'This is a wonderful development for the University and the Downs community and is the beginning of a fully fledged Law degree for both undergraduates and postgraduates.
'It will provide a very valuable alternative option for those wishing to study Law. For local high school leavers in both the Darling Downs region and in the Springfield area, it means that instead of leaving to go elsewhere, they will now be able to stay closer to home.'
The Law launch will be held on the fifth level of Q Block at USQ from 5:30pm, with media welcome to attend the event.
