Local Business work with USQ Applied Media Students
Bachelor of Applied Media students at the University of Southern Queensland (USQ) Springfield campus put theory into practice this semester, producing promotional videos for Greater Springfield business clients as part of their course assessment.
Seven groups of students were tasked with creating either a commercial or short video production to promote a local businesses or group.
As part of the process they would need to liaise with their allocated client from the beginning of the process to the end.
First year student Caleb Alexis whose team worked with local garden centre The Bottle Tree said the assignment was an opportunity to go out into the real world and work with real clients.
'We had to meet with the client several times to discuss what kind of video they wanted and to create a product that would meet their needs,' Caleb said.
'We also had to arrange and book equipment and create, produce and edit the five minute video ourselves from start to finish.
'When our client saw the first edit of the video they seemed to really love it and will hopefully get even more out of the final edit that has incorporated their final comments.
'The whole process has just been an enormous learning curve for us, taking the theory we have learnt in the classroom and putting it to a practical use.'
Director of The Bottle Tree Berend Lockefeer said it was a true delight to work with the USQ students.
'They acted in a professional manner and the quality of the end product exceeded our expectations,' he said.
'Being open seven days per week, all video shoots were done during trading hours and the students handled this very well.'
Local businesses that participated in the assignment project were: The Bottle Tree, Springfield Self Defence Karate, USQ Springfield – BAM Program, Orion Shopping Centre, Niche Hotel, Education City, Spa Orient and Six Eagles.
