Studios open at McGregor

One of Australia's premier arts retreats is again in full swing. USQ's McGregor Summer School has launched into its 39th year and is inviting the community to join in the celebrations.

McGregor has opened up the studios and Arts Theatre and is inviting the community to enjoy what the school has on offer.

A number of concerts and presentations will be held throughout the next seven days, showcasing both the students' and tutors' talents and work.

Artsworx Manager, Dr Rebecca Scollen, said the school was opening the doors to the public so they could experience the wonderful atmosphere of McGregor, and view the amazing work being produced at the school.

'The students will present free concerts during lunch time and we invite the community to come out and be entertained,' Dr Scollen said.

'The students are keen to perform and would love an audience. They are very talented musicians and it will be fantastic entertainment free of charge.

'The tutors will also hold concerts each night. For a gold coin donation people will have the rare opportunity to hear many internationally renowned musicians perform live - this may be the only opportunity for people in regional areas to see them.'

The community is also invited to attend the tutors' daily slides/powerpoint presentations of their work.

Meanwhile, on Friday 12 January 2007, the Students' Final Gala Concert will be open to the public in Toowoomba's renowned Empire Theatre.

McGregor will also once again hold the McGregor Market.  The community is encouraged to view the final Summer School Exhibition of students' work, along with a performance by the music segment of the School playing the 1812 Overture, other live music, and the Junior Theatre Workshop play in the Arts Theatre.

The winner of the annual McGregor Prize for Photography will also be announced at 11am during the Market Day. People will also be able to purchase students works at the market.

Tutors concerts will be held nightly from 7.30pm. Different tutors will showcase each night and will present a wide variety of different musical styles from Jazz to classical. The free lunch-time concerts presented by the students will be held in the Arts Theatre daily.
