Art on display at McGregor

One of Australia's premier arts retreats is winding down for another year. The University of Southern Queensland's (USQ) 39th McGregor Summer School is inviting the community to attend the McGregor Market tomorrow (Saturday 13 January 2006).

McGregor will open up the studios and Arts Theatre and is inviting the community to enjoy what the school has on offer.

The community is encouraged to view the final exhibition of students' work and enjoy a performance by the music segment of the School, who will play the 1812 Overture.

Live music will be performed throughout the day and the Junior Theatre Workshop play will be held in the Arts Theatre.

Artsworx Manager, Dr Rebecca Scollen, said the school was opening the doors to the public so they could experience the wonderful atmosphere of McGregor and view the amazing work being produced at the school.

'If people are looking for something to do on the weekend the McGregor Market will be a great way to spend part of Saturday. There will be loads of food, entertainment and colour.

'People are welcome to come out and get a real taste of what the students have been working on during the past few weeks. They are welcome to wander around the studios and view the work.

'It is a great opportunity to introduce children to performance and it's free.

'The Market will have a great festival atmosphere and there will be lots of different kinds of arts and crafts on display.'

Work produced by some of the students will be available for purchase throughout the day, along with a number of tutors art work.

The winner of the annual McGregor Prize for Photography will also be announced at 11am in Arts Theatre Foyer.
