USQ Springfield to sponsor Met West Sports Region
The University of Southern Queensland (USQ) Springfield campus and the Queensland School Sport Metropolitan West region have signed a three-year deal that will see the University sponsoring Met West for a total of $30,000 over three years.
USQ Springfield Director Doug Fraser said the sponsorship, beginning in January 2008, would also provide the University's undergraduate education students with professional development opportunities.
'As a result of this sponsorship agreement our students will be able to act as volunteers at regional sporting events,' Mr Fraser said.
'It will also allow USQ to build relationships between students and families in our local area.
'We are the local University for students in the south-western suburbs of Brisbane and the Ipswich area and as such it is important that we support the community.'
Mr Fraser said the Metropolitan West sporting region stretched from the Western suburbs of Brisbane through the major growth corridor of Ipswich into the Lockyer and Fassifern areas.
'In 2007, approximately 92,000 students were enrolled in schools within the Met West region making it the largest school sporting region in the State.
'We are proud to offer our support to Met West school sport and look forward to a long and fruitful relationship in the future.'
Metropolitan West Regional School Sport Officer Brendan Smith welcomed the partnership with the University.
'The Metropolitan West School Sport Board is very appreciative of the University's support of schools, students and families within our local area,' Mr Smith said.
'Our students will benefit greatly from this funding with sponsorship funds to be shared between special projects such as strengthening sporting opportunities for Athletes With a Disability (AWD), and supporting many programs already in place within the region.
'We're very excited about the benefits this partnership will bring for both parties.'
