USQ donates computer to Springfield student

University of Southern Queensland's (USQ) International Department has donated a notebook computer to Springfield campus student Suresh Wijesinghe following the loss of all of his possessions in a fire at home in Greenslopes.

The fire gutted the unit Suresh shared with two other students on Sunday 16 September, leaving him with only the clothes on his back.

Director of International Education Management Lorne Gibson said Suresh found himself in a frightening situation a long way from home and family.

'Suresh moved to Springfield from Colombo, Sri Lanka to study a Masters in Project Management,' Mr Gibson said.

'To lose everything he owned while living in another country must have been devastating.

'He lost all of the information saved on his computer including assignments and exam notes as well as text books and everyday items.

'Offers of clothing and accommodation have been made from all across the USQ community and local community to assist Suresh to get back on his feet.

'We hope that the notebook will also help him get back on track with his studies.'
