USQ Welcomes Students for O Week!

Speed meeting, a food festival and the traditional ‘stalls day' are just three of the activities planned during USQ's annual ‘O Week' celebrations.

Cathy Jacobs is from the USQ Student Guild and said one of the key events this year is a welcome BBQ on Sunday 25 February.

'We are inviting staff, students and parents to the welcome BBQ in the quadrangle on the Sunday from 12-2pm.

'We have found in the past that many parents are helping their sons or daughters settle into accommodation in Toowoomba on that weekend.

'So this is basically an opportunity for them to mix with staff, see the campus and spend some time with their child in a relaxed atmosphere,' Cathy said.

'We are then inviting students back to the quad on Monday for our inaugural food festival. We've also have entertainment, activities and games planned from 9am, so it should be a lot of fun.'

The Clive Berghofer Recreation Centre (CBRC) will also host a number of activities during the week.

'One of the biggest days during O Week is traditionally the ‘stalls day' on the Wednesday, which is held in the CBRC.

'This is a great opportunity for local business to come along and promote their services to students and students always appreciate the giveaways, entertainment and rock climbing,' Cathy said.

USQ Vice Chancellor, Professor Bill Lovegrove, says orientation gives students the opportunity to meet staff and other students and learn about the services and opportunities on offer at the University.

'University can be a pretty daunting experience when you first arrive, but O Week is specifically designed to make this adjustment as easy as possible,

'In particular O Week is an ideal opportunity to explore the campus, meet staff and other students and join clubs and societies.

'Traditionally O Week is also a lot of fun and I hope students enjoy themselves responsibly.'

USQ ‘O Week' runs from Sunday 25 February to Friday 2 March 2007. For more information please head to the USQ O Week webpage or the USQ Student Guild website.
