Local talent to be showcased at Open Day
17 of Toowoomba's most talented street performers will put their talents on display at USQ's Toowoomba Campus Open Day this Sunday (19 August 2007).
From singer songwriters to a hip-hop dancing duo and everything in between, there will be something to keep the thousands expected at the Open Day entertained.
'All of the performers that will be here for Open Day are local Toowoomba acts and all of them are very talented,' USQ events officer Anna Scheuringer said.
'Thousands are expected to come through the Campus on the day so this is a great chance for them to be heard by a wide and diverse audience.'
With auditions held over a number of weeks leading up to the Open Day, Ms Scheuringer said that it was a difficult task narrowing the number of performers down to 17.
'Some of the auditions were held at Bon Amici Cafe, who are sponsoring busker's lane and we had a lot of people turn up over the three weeks that we held auditions,' she said.
'It was hard only choosing 17 performers but everyone can be proud of the talent that we have here in Toowoomba.'
As well as buskers lane some other locally renowned performers will also play throughout the day.
'Two local bands, Remedy and Bloodspots will be playing and they are both musical acts who have established themselves in Toowoomba,' Ms Scheuringer said.
'I encourage everyone to come to Open Day and hear and support some of the best local acts that we have.'
Around 6000 people are expected to pass through the campus during Open Day, including roughly 2000 prospective students who will be given a taste of university life at USQ.
Along with program and career information, a science tent featuring exhibits from the Queensland museum, a wine science tent and international food stalls will keep crowds busy throughout the day.
The USQ Toowoomba campus Open Day will run from 10am to 3pm this Sunday (19 August 2007).
