Law to be launched at Springfield
Local politicians, legal practitioners and educators will get the chance to mark the establishment of USQ's new law program, at the Springfield campus on Wednesday 11 July 2007.
Head of the USQ School of Law Mark Tranter said that it was an opportunity for professionals in the Springfield and Ipswich areas to mark the start of law at USQ Springfield.
'This is the first law school in Queensland to be launched since 1992 and is in response to the growing demand for legal education,' Mr Tranter said.
'It is a momentous step for USQ and the launch will be a chance for those in the Springfield region to be a part of the start of the University's law program.'
Legal practitioners, school principals and the Mayor of Ipswich Cr Paul Pissale and Deputy Mayor Cr Victor Attwood have been invited to the event along with many other dignitaries.
'Members of the judiciary and the local business community, representatives from the Springfield Chamber of Commerce and Springfield Land Corporation have been invited as well as the President of the Queensland Law Society Joe Pinder and Vice-President Megan Mahon,' Mr Tranter said.
The law program will be on offer at USQ's Toowoomba and Springfield campuses from Semester one 2008.
'By offering law, USQ will give people on the Darling Downs and Western Brisbane region an alternative and it will open up a gateway to lawyers in regional areas,' Mr Tranter said.
'The USQ law program will also offer its courses externally, only the second University in Queensland to do so, and that will create further options for those wishing to study law.'
Elective specialisations within the law program include commercial law, general practice, environmental and natural resource law and international law.
