Business Dean to deliver Professorial Lecture

USQ Business Dean Professor Allan Layton will address USQ students, staff and the general public when he delivers the annual Steele Rudd College Professorial lecture on 28 August 2007.

Professor Layton will present What Does Economics Have To Offer 21st Century Australia, which will give people the chance to hear the academic's first Professorial Lecture at USQ.

'My lecture will cover a number of areas concerned with economics,' Professor Layton said.

'I will talk about what economics is as opposed to what a lot of people think it is and discuss some of the main contributions that economics has made, particularly here in Australia since the last recession in 1992.'

Additionally, Professor Layton will also cover some of the research that he has conducted over the past two decades.

'My own research agenda is looking at the likelihood of future recessions,' he said.

'I have been an academic for 30 years and 20 of those have been dedicated to business cycle research, which deals with predicting when we could have our next recession.'

Held at one of USQ's residential colleges, Steele Rudd, Professor Layton said that he was excited to be asked to present the lecture.

'I am very pleased to do it and I think it will be a rather enjoyable experience.

'It has been organised professionally and I am looking forward to addressing the students and other guests.'

Group Manager in Student Affairs Barbara Lawrence was anticipating a good response to the lecture and encouraged the public to attend.

'Professor Layton is an academic with an extensive research background in this interesting area,' she said.

'It is a good opportunity for the students, other academics and the community to hear from one of our University deans.'

The Steele Rudd Professorial Lecture will take place in the Steele Rudd College Dining Hall on Baker Street, beginning at 7:30pm.
