Trivia nights to raise funds for USQ Scholarship

The Springfield community can look forward to a night of free family fun, while raising money for a good cause, with the launch of the University of Southern Queensland (USQ) Springfield Chancellor's Scholarship trivia night competition.

Competition coordinator, Ken Gideon, said the first trivia will be held on Wednesday 18 July 2007 and will give the community community an opportunity to support the education of local students.

'Valued at $4,000 per year for the duration of the recipient's academic program, the Chancellor's Scholarship is awarded to high achieving student from the local area who is starting university.

'The trivia competition provides an opportunity for the community to support this Scholarship and have fun while they are doing it,' Ken said.

Local businesses have been very generous in their support of the competition with plenty of prizes to be won.

"The Spring Lake Hotel and Sports Bar are providing $150 worth of prizes each week and several other businesses in the Springfield Lakes Metro Centre will be supporting this effort through the donations of prizes as well.

'The hotel has also kindly agreed to donate three dollars for every person who attends,' Ken said.

Teams will have a chance to influence the categories for the following week as well.

'Every team that participates can submit a category for the following week. Two categories will be selected with those teams winning a $25 gift voucher from the hotel.'

Mr Gideon said the competition was designed for the whole community and if a team had to miss a week they could still be in the running for the major prize.

'It's designed to include everyone, the questions don't favour a particular nationality – there are Australian questions and non-Australian questions as well.

'The points system means if a team can't make it one week they will be able to make up their points the following weeks.'

Teams of six players are recommended. Teams will gain points for attendance and results. The team with the most points at the end of the ten weeks will win the major prize.

The trivia nights will run each Wednesday night starting at 7pm at the Spring Lake Hotel and Sports Bar. Teams are welcome to register on the night.
