Unique exhibition one night only
A unique exhibition featuring a 2.5 metre bass guitar made out of tin cans will be launched tonight (Friday 2 November 2007) by fourth year USQ student Ash Williams.
The exhibition, which is part of Ash's assessment, will feature pastel, sculpture, photography, compositions, bass solos and animation all created by the education student.
'I am an education student, but I have always had an interest in music and art so I decided to do them as my major at university,' Ash said.
'This exhibition will have a number of different items, but perhaps the most interesting is the big tin can bass that I made.'
Ash will also use the exhibition to launch his new CD, which he recorded at home and on which he played each instrument.
'I did everything on this CD, which took four years to bring together,' he said.
'It was recorded at home and I played each of the five instruments on the CD and also sang all 13 tracks.'
With Ash graduating from the University shortly, the exhibition has allowed the pre-service teacher to reflect on all that he has achieved over the past five years.
'When I was at school I never thought that I could go to University, but in 2002 I decided to do the Tertiary Preparation Program (TPP) and got through that,' he said.
'It took some time to get up to everyone else's level but I got there and now I am only day's away from finishing uni.'
Although the art exhibition will be on show for one night only, Ash is considering showing his pieces at other galleries and also further promotion of his CD.
'I wasn't going to show the art anywhere else but a few people have told me that I should put them up in an art gallery in Toowoomba so it is something that I am thinking about,' he said.
'With the CD I have about 100 to sell but I am also planning on trying to sell them to record companies all over the world.'
Ash's art exhibition and CD launch will be held in Q147 at USQ, beginning at 5:46pm and will be on display until 9pm tonight.
