Festival to delight children
Community organisations are currently working with USQ staff to prepare bubble-painting, music and life-size displays as part of the annual Community Children's Festival.
Formerly known as Under 8's Day, the USQ and Community Children's Festival, will offer a range of activities in the University quadrangle on Saturday 2 June 2007.
Festival Coordinator Alice Brown said the event was designed to provide innovative experiences for children.
'The whole day is about providing experiences to empower children and raise the profile of children as capable and competent members of the community,' she said.
More then 30 local community organisations will provide innovative experiences to extend the curiosity and creativity of children on the day.
Smells, sounds and gooey blobs will feature as part of the Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE ‘Sensory Walk' where children will be guided tour for the senses.
Life-size dinosaurs, digging for dinosaur remains and fossil making will form part of a mega fauna display by Cobb and Co Museum.
Meanwhile the Toowoomba City Council will present water saving ideas to children, and healthy eating will be promoted by a community nutritionist.
Roving entertainment, bubble-painting, baby massage, story telling and light and shade tents will all be part of the day.
USQ is also looking forward to hosting the Breez Finance Children's Festival which will incorporate music, art and theatre from 1-10 June 2007 in the USQ Arts building.
Three plays, an interactive art exhibition and music performance will be part of the week-long Festival.
The USQ and Community Children's Festival will run from 10:30am to 2:30pm on Saturday 2 June 2007 at the USQ Toowoomba campus. Entry is free. Members of the community are invited to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy this family day out.
