USQ Fraser Coast Provost meets Deputy Prime Minster
Deputy Prime Minister Mark Vaile met with USQ Fraser Coast Provost Ken Stott during a recent pre-election visit to Hervey Bay.
Mr Vaile was in the region to announce funding for a number of projects including a new neighbourhood centre for the city.
He said that a re-elected coalition government would commit $1.5 million dollars towards the construction of the new centre which would replace the ageing 20-year-old facility.
'Building an entirely new centre which meets the needs of people of all ages and abilities is clearly a very important project for the wider community,' he said.
The Hervey Bay City Council has also pledged $1 million toward the project which is expected to cost about $4 million.
USQ Fraser Coast is a partner in the project and has been working closely with the Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre in the development of the concept for the new facility.
Mr Vaile and Dr Stott also discussed the university.
'Mr Vaile took an interest in the work of the campus and was pleasantly surprised that such a small campus has so many students,' Dr Stott said.
On his visit to Hervey Bay, Mr Vaile was accompanied by Federal Member for Hinkler Paul Neville who had visited the campus a few weeks earlier and expressed his support for the campus.
